Detox Water: Am I the only one confused ?

Left to right: pomegranate and cucumber; raspberry, strawberry and lime; cucumber and lemon.
I do not own these pictures.

As I scroll down my news feed I see  pictures of 'detox water' which people have posted. The concept and reason for drinking 'detox water' complete confused me and made me curious. Why would anyone want to drink water full of fruit and vegetables ?
So I decided to do some research, 'detox water' is meant to cleanse your body, improve weight loss and increase your metabolism.
Left to right: Avocado, mint, watermelon, strawberry, raspberry, lemon/lime, cucumber, pomegranate.

Pictures taken from: www.sheknows.com, www.doctorgrabow.com, www.taste.com.au, www.vapeland.co.uk, www.yumyumgum.com, www.colourbox.com, www.rubyredpomegranates.co.uk, www.mrm-usa.com .

I researched what to put in your water and what are the benefits of these.
  • Avocado - Are high in vitamin K, Vitamin B9, vitamin B6, vitamin B5, vitamin C, and vitamin E.
  • Cucumber/Watermelon - Helps the body flush out toxins because it contains citrulline, an amino acid that helps the liver and kidneys filter and get rid of ammonia.
  • Strawberry -They contain anthocyanins, which stimulate the burning of stored fat, they also contains magnesium, potassium and vitamin K which improve bone health.
  • Lemon/Lime - Helps stimulate and regulate the digestive track (which is helpful with constipation, heartburn and gas), it stimulates bile production, and thins out bile
  • Mint leaves - Mint is meant to help you digest more effectively, which will improve the flow of bile from the liver, to the gallbladder and to the small intestine, where dietary fats are broken down. It supposedly helps relax cramped up stomach muscles.
  • Raspberry - The phytonutrients (mainly rheosmin) found in raspberries boost your metabolic rate they do this by increasing enzyme activity, heat production and oxygen consumption in certain fat cells.
  • Pomegranate - High in vitamin C, vitamin K, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron and vitamin B5

I did not believe these claims but I tried out one using limes, raspberries and strawberries whilst I felt healthier after drinking it, which I think was mainly due to the fact that I do not usually drink as much water. So by drinking extra water it made my body happier. Although I felt healthier the hassle it took to make the drink was unnecessary as you had to leave it over night to let the water infuse before you can drink it. I am also not looking to lose weight and have a relatively high metabolism already so I personally see no reason to drink this apart from trying to be healthy.
Overall if you have time to make this and want to feel healthy you should give it ago but I cannot guarantee weight loss or increased metabolism.
Hope this helped you understand what a 'detox water' is, learnt about benefits of certain fruits and vegetables and most importantly enjoyed reading this post. To help me improve my blog please leave comments with ideas for future posts and constructive criticism.
